Paris boasts an impressive choice of art galleries, museums and monuments. These include the famous Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Eiffel Tower and Pompidou Centre. Galleries such as the Musée Rodin and Musée Jacquemart-André delight art enthusiasts whilst opera lovers will adore the Opéra Garnier and Opéra Bastille. Further away lie the Palace of Versailles, home to the French kings, the Palace of Fontainbleau and Giverny, the home of the Impressionist painter Claude Monet.

Normandy is a site of pilgrimage for thousands of war veterans and their families. The famous beaches include Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword where soldiers landed at the start of Operation Overlord. Memorials include dignified cemeteries, Le Memorial de Caen and the remains of the Mulberry Harbour. Nearby, visitors may view the historic tapestry at Bayeux and to the west lies the medieval Mont-St-Michel, surrounded by sea at high tide and dominated by the fortified abbey.

An epicurean heaven, Bordeaux encompasses the mighty wine region of the Médoc and the brandy producing area of Cognac. Bordeaux began life as a port, exporting the wine that has made the city and region so famous. Many fine historic buildings line the streets and waterfront testifying to the city’s merchant past. The surrounding area gives way to farmland and vineyards. Famous wine chateaux of the region include Margaux and Cheval Blanc.

Glamourous beaches and tranquil hinterlands are found here.The Lubéron region typifies Provence with small towns such as Gordes interspersed by lavender fields and vineyards. Avignon has its papal palace and nearby Arles a Roman amphitheatre. On the coast lie the Riviera towns of Nice, Cannes and St Tropez where yachts jostle for position in the cosmopolitan harbours. The region is known for its gastronomy and a visit to La Colombe d’Or at St Paul de Vence is highly recommended (and can be booked via our local office).

A tiny principality, independent from France, Monaco is best reached via the Moyenne Corniche, one of the most beautiful highways in the world. Famous for its Grand Casino, Monte Carlo also boasts the world’s oldest monarchy. Visitors may also like to visit the Palais Princier and the world famous aquarium.

A region with a colourful and rich past, including the Dukes of Burgundy from the fourteenth century and a deep routed passion for food and wine which emanated from the Middle Ages. Spending time outdoors in Burgundy is a must with three UNESCO World Heritage sites, the beautiful Morvan National Park, or even the fresh food markets with tasty local produce. Dijon, the historical capital of the region, is a cultural hub, having a large numbers of churches, various museums and being home to the annual International & Gastronomic Fair, held every autumn.
