Botanical Gardens of Ostrog
Located north of Split are the award-winning Botanical Gardens of Ostrog, a result of many years of hard work by both students and teachers of Ostrog primary school. Work started in the 1970’s to ‘tidy-up’ the wasteland that surrounded the school, but clearly this project meant a great deal more and in 1986 it was officially declared a Botanical Garden. The gardens extend to almost 4 acres around the school, with approximately 1400 different species of plants and 25 fields of trees. An olive grove was planted in 1983 with 170 olive trees and 45 different species of olives and every year students, together with their teachers, make olive oil which enjoys a unique flavour. The main objectives of the gardens are to be an aesthetic, ecological and educational resource for the children.
Aiding Environmental Awareness in Croatia
Abercrombie & Kent are offering clients the chance to visit the gardens to witness first hand the way in which the children’s education is being enriched with their close involvement in this project and also to appreciate the beauty of the gardens. Please contact us to find out more should your clients be interested in visiting the project.

Florentine Sculptures
Visitors to Florence soon become accustomed to the monuments and statues that the city proudly has on display, however many will not appreciate the time and expense that is involved in conserving these for future generations. Due to the delicate nature of this work, progress can be painstakingly slow; however the results give the pieces a new lease of life and illustrate the pride the Florentines have in their heritage.
Conserve the Florentine Sculptures with A&K
Abercrombie & Kent Italy have worked tirelessly to assist the local authority in Florence in supporting the restoration of three important statues - Benvenuto Cellini, a replica fountain of the Bacco del Giambologna, both on the Ponte Vecchio and Hercules and the Lion in the Piazza Ognissanti. Guests visiting the city will be invited to visit these pieces to learn more about their history and the precision of the work that is involved in reviving them. Abercrombie & Kent are proud to be supporting this project which is due to be completed in August 2010. If you think your clients would like to include such a visit in their itineraries please contact us to find out more.
