FD Private Shore Excursion of Arromanches Omaha Beach and Honfleur

France Coastline

Programme Overview

Duration: 1 day

An 8-hour shore excursion to the most picturesque ports in France.

Highlights: Arromanches, Omaha Beach, Honfleur

DETAILS

This morning you will be met from your ship for a private tour beginning with a visit to the town of Arromanches. It was the site of the prefabricated ‘Mulberry’ harbor, which was towed in pieces across the English Channel to enable some 2 ½ million soldiers to land over a period of three months. Here you will visit the Musée du Débarquement that depicts the invasion in fascinating detail. After lunch at leisure continue to the St Laurent American Cemetery, above Omaha beach, which was the site of the heaviest of the American casualties, and known as ‘Bloody Omaha’.  At the end of your tour today, take a stroll on the cobbled quays and alleyways that make up the delightful seaside town of Honfleur, one of the most picturesque ports in France. The Vieux Bassin, where yachts now replace the smugglers’ boats, is probably the most painted harbor in the world and the whole town is awash with galleries.
