Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive Barcelona

On arrival in Barcelona, meet your representative and transfer to your hotel, located in the heart of Barcelona. The balance of your day is at leisure. This evening, join your Tour Director for welcome drinks followed by an evening tapas tour.

Day 2 - Barcelona

Today discover the sights of the city with a half-day tour of Barcelona including exploration of the Gothic Quarter and the iconic, Sagrada Familia.

Spend the evening at leisure enjoying the gastronomic delights of this unique city.

Day 3 - Penedés - Barcelona

Depart by coach and explore the wine region of Penedés, south of Barcelona, renowned for the sparkling ‘cavas’. Enjoy a full-day tour of the region including the Torres winery complex followed by a lunch of Catalan specialties. Returning to Barcelona, enjoy a tour of the 'Eixample' district of the city, which is virtually unchanged from when it was built at the turn of the century. The tour also shows masterpieces of most famous Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudí.

See the ‘Block of Discord', with the astonishing Casa Batlló and the Casa Amatller, then the Casa Milá (Pedrera building) with its attics built like the hulls of ships and the Güell Park, an enchanting combination of gardens, architecture and mosaics. Dine this evening in a local restaurant.

Day 4 - Barcelona - Zaragoza - San Sebastian

This morning head west on the AVE fast train from Barcelona to Zaragoza. Transfer to Pamplona for lunch including wine pairing and an overview tour of the city where they will learn about the running of the Bulls. 

Continue to San Sebastián and this evening take the opportunity to enjoy a typical Basque “pintxos” (tapas) experience.

Day 5 - San Sebastian

Celebrate Basque culture embarking on a full-day trip around San Sebastian and Getaria for a winery visit, sampling local varieties including Txakoli (traditional Basque wine).

Day 6 - La Rioja

Enjoy the wines of La Rioja today as you travel South from San Sebastian to Haro. Stop in the village of Oyón, home of the Faustino bodegas and also the city of Logroño, the region’s capital, home of the large Campo Viejo wineries, part of the Allied Domecq and major exporters to the UK and the USA. 

After lunch, continue south toward Haro, the most important of all the wine towns of La Rioja region. En-route visit the absolutely outstanding Dinastía Vivanco wine museum, not to be missed by any serious wine lover. Alternatively, drive through the classic wine country of the Rioja Alavesa and see some famous bodegas from the outside.

Day 7 - La Rioja

Experience all this famed wine region has to offer with a full-day trip in La Rioja to visit local wineries for tastings and explore the vineyards.

Day 8 - Ribera del Duero 

Transfer to Ribera de Duero including a stop in Santo Domingo de la Calzada, one of the Rioja towns most deeply marked by the Pilgrim's Route to Santiago de Compostela. Explore the cultural heritage of this area, wander amid the city walls, the Cathedral and the old Pilgrims' Hospital taking in the network of medieval streets which have been declared a National Historic Interest Site. One highlight of the day also includes a unique stop in Aranda de Duero to visit an underground local winery.

At the end of the afternoon arrive at your hotel. Dine tonight at leisure.

Day 9 - Ribera del Duero 

Enjoy your day along the Ribera de Duero region, including visits to traditional wineries such as Abadia Retuerta or Pago de Carraovejas.

Dinner tonight is at leisure.

Day 10 - Madrid

Transfer to Valladolid and head South on the high-speed train to Madrid. This afternoon, take a guided tour of the city to learn about its rich history and admire Madrid's architecture or explore at leisure to enjoy shopping at designer boutiques and the contemporary nightlife on offer.

Day 11 - Depart

Transfer to Madrid Airport to catch departure flight.
